Declan hails from Co. Tyrone. He
started to play music with his family as a child and learned a lot
from his grandmother Lilly Corey, who was a great melodeon and
harmonica player, as well as a renowned singer. Another major
influence on him was John Loughran, the legendary blind fiddle
player from Pomeroy Co Tyrone.

| Declan was all Ireland banjo
champion three times in succession , but now concentrates mainly on
the bouzouki and mandolin. He recorded his first album with The
Corey Family "Traditional music from the Mountain Road" and has
since gone on to record and play with various artists, including an
appearance on the recent CD by singer/songwriter Mick Hanly. He is
also a composer of new tunes, the best known of which is "Two Black
Russians" which features on the first album by Lia
Luachra. He is now based in Galway and travels extensively with
Lia Luachra.
